There is a fictional idea called the "right of contract," which essentially postulates that people are completely free to sell their labor to the best employer. Our legal system is based upon this false notion, with many dire consequences for people who need to eat, have shelter, and other necessities. While it is true that many people can scam the government safety net, most people are required to work for any employer that will have them. They have little, if any choice. In any case, there is absolutely no democracy in the workplace.
