I am moving here the two examples of police brutality that I originally posted as part of the parent problem.
I started mentioning the incident with Andrew Meyer at the Florida University 1 only in order to introduce the Roseland case. I thought you had heard about the Meyer incident. The videos have been viewed millions of time. The very next day, the University officials have decided to have an independent review of the incident, and review protocols. Also, the officers involved had already been put on paid leave 2. People have argued a lot about whether Andrew Meyer deserved his fate by resisting. To me, it is obvious that the use of force was excessive. Meyer's attitude at the mike might have been less than ideal3, if they had allowed him to finish his question (30 seconds?), none of that mess would have happened. That's all I have to say on this case. It has already attracted plenty of media attention, and an investigation is going on. There is nothing for me to do here.
The case that really interest me, however, is the Tiller/Snyder case in Roseland, Indiana. This is a case that is currently under a complete media blackout 4. Also, it is completely clear from the video that Officer Tiller's assault on Councilman Snyder is completely unjustified. Snyder was peacefully leaving the meeting when he was asked to do so, his hands full of papers and video equipment. Still, it is also obvious from the video that Snyder has accumulated plenty of resentment against him. Snyder's past behaviour probably explain much of the officer's attitude. It might explain it, but it certainly does not justify it. I am still investigating the case. A complete coverage of the incident will be posted here: http://minguo.info/usa/node/67 .
I cannot do nothing about the Roseland case.
1st, officer Tiller's attitude is obviously completely illegal.
2nd, unlike in the FU case, where the officers have been put on paid leave, and an investigation is going on5, officer Tiller has not been charged with anything, nor suspended from his function, and there isn't any ongoing investigation.
3rd, the case has attracted very little media attention (i.e. none) 6. This is a case where my efforts can actually make a difference. We cannot allow a police officer to get away with taking the place of a judge and a sentencing officer.
As soon as I heard about the case, I sent an email to the Roseland, Indiana's city council's address: roselandgov @ michiana.org.
Have you?
In addition, I will carry on investigating the case to make a thorough, objective report, and try to publicize it until the main stream media at last decide to cover the case.

Snyderville
I had spend a fair amount of time investigating the Snyder case.
The video puzzled me because it was obvious that there was more that met the eye.
Yes, the officer's beating was 100% illegal and should be punished, but it was obvious that the people in attendance had accumulated a lot of resentment against Snyder.
Indeed, Snyder is far from being completely innocent. Watch the documentary Snyderville to understand better the source of the resentment.
Still, it doesn't excuse the police officer's attitude.

The important question is: what can we do?
