As someone who is a Jew and was a strong leftist for much of my life, I find this particular issue most wrenching. Having a very close connection to the Holocaust, I find myself emotionally tied up in the survival or Israel, of the idea of a Jewish homeland. But I also have been appalled at some of the actions of the Israeli government toward the Palestinian people. And I certainly understand the Palestinians feeling mistreated at being kicked off the land that was theirs for hundreds of years, yet the culture surrounding the honoring of suicide bombers is horrifying to me.
