Labor unions are really huge insurance companies whose major interest is in protecting their current members. They have little if any interest in recruiting new members. The recruitment of new members would actually in some cases work to the disadvantage of the unions because their pie would get smaller rather than larger. It seems counter-intuitive and I can't say I totally understand it. The construction unions don't want more construction workers because they are afraid of competition among workers.
I would like to get a job either with a labor union or through a labor union. Working with or through a union, in my opinion, would give me a fair shot at getting a job that pays a wage or salary that will allow me to meet the reasonable REAL and ACTUAL costs of living.
It amazes me that labor unions have not gotten in on the "job development" scene. I understand that there are a lot of federal dollars available for this purpose.
Questions:
Does federal law impede unions in this sort of organizing?
